Does my house need insulation?
Most New Zealand homes benefit greatly from as least some insulation. External wall and ceiling insulation provide a protective thermal envelope around the home, restricting the transfer of heat through the ceilings and wall. Ceiling insulation is particularly important from a thermal perspective. On a hot summers day, the roof and ceiling space quickly heat up, and in the absence of ceiling insulation, this heat quickly penetrates into the living areas below. Ceiling insulation reduces the load on indoor cooling and heating appliances significantly. In some circumstances, sufficient ceiling insulation can practically remove the need for air-conditioning, resulting in substantial power savings.
Glasswool insulation segments also have acoustic properties, and when installed in the ceilings, walls and underfloors of homes, will contribute to a more quiet home environment. Consider installing Bradford’s SoundScreen, a high density insulation that absorbs sound waves, in your internal walls. The Bradford SoundScreen price can’t compare to the peace of mind you will enjoy in your new quiet home. Internal wall insulation is best installed at the time of construction before the plastering stage.
